A literary and cultural event titled “Kargil–Adab-o-Saqafat 2026” was organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil at the college premises on Wednesday.
Brigadier Aashish Anil Joshi was the Chief Guest, while Colonel Manoj Rathi and Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, GDC Kargil, were among the distinguished guests.
The programme began with a visit to an exhibition showcasing academic and creative projects of various departments and skill centres of the college. The formal programme commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, followed by a keynote address by eminent poet and writer Kacho Asfandiyar Khan Faridoon on the history and cultural evolution of Kargil.

The main attraction was a panel discussion on “Kargil–Adab-o-Saqafat”, featuring prominent writers and poets representing Balti, Shina and Ladakhi literary traditions. The discussion was moderated by **Mr. Mohd Javad (Jawad Jalib Ameeni), Convener, Literary and Oratory Society, GDC Kargil.
The event also featured poetry, a traditional folk song, a patriotic song and a skit on India’s freedom struggle presented by students. Brigadier Joshi appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of preserving literature, culture and local traditions.
Panelists and participating students were felicitated with mementos and certificates. Sakina Mahak delivered the vote of thanks, while Fizza Banno Trespone, a 5th-semester student, anchored the programme. The event provided a meaningful platform for literary dialogue, cultural exchange and celebration of Kargil’s rich history and heritage.
